There isn't anything wrong, per se, with playing a game like Tens Go Fish to drill math facts. Drill it with worksheets, drill it by making your kid add the scores when you play Rummy, drill it with Tens Go Fish and Addition War, drill it with flash cards, it's all getting to the same place.

The silliness comes in when schools keep kids back rather than saying "keep practicing your addition facts, but now we are working on two digit addition,"
