Math problems of the week: Connected Math vs. 1900's algebra

Is it dangerous to have high schoolers dive right into algebraic solutions to equations without having them use tables first?

Oh gosh. I've got to get a copy of that algebra text. My daughter would LOVE that. She's currently using one that was first published in the 1930's and although I love her modern text, Singapore Discovering Mathemtics, she much prefers the simple and straightforward texts the one in your post.
