The Inclusive Class Podcast

I had a very interesting interview this past Friday with Nicole Eredics and Terri Mauro on the Inclusive Class Podcast.

This is completely unrelated, but I need help!

We have a rising 8th grader who writes relatively well grammatically speaking, but she has trouble synthesizing ideas. Unlike many schools which are content to baby-step kids with detailed rubrics and don't require students to do much more than parrot back their reading, she is at a tough school which is actually looking for understanding, ideas, and insights.

I looked around for summer writing assignments, and all seem to be of the book report, journaling, or personal narrative type, and not the fact-based, marshal-an-argument type of writing she needs to practice.

Does anyone have ideas of what to do with her?
