I remember those geography sections in our kids' EM. The school never bothered to assigned them.

This was a school that only got through about 2/3rds of EM each year, so they didn't have time for stuff like that.

And, let me tell you, in a spiraling curriculum, when you miss 1/3rd of the text, you miss out on a lot!!! You never get back to skills that didn't sink in the first time. The following year's teacher also has nothing to go on--no way of knowing what kids *didn't* learn the previous year.

At least with a sequential text, the prior year's teacher can tell where they left off.
